Now, Hangul is worldwide

When I was a middle school student, I learned about disappearing languages. Many native languages of the world were disappearing since it has no means to record and old men who knew the language were dying. Major languages were replacing unique native languages, resulting extinction of  their own cultures. From this, we can understand how important a language is.

That’s why Cia-Cia tribe chose Hangul as their own script characters. Cia-Cia tribe visited Korea, invited by Seoul Metropolitan government and Hunminjeongeum society. Their purpose was to invite Korean teachers to teach Hangul in their island. Cia-Cia tribe, who lives at a tip of Indonesia, decided to adapt Hangul as its own script character in this August. Even though they had their own language, they didn’t have no means to write down. As a result, they couldn’t record anything in their native language. Therefore, they decided to use Hangul to write down Cia-Cia language.

Hangul is a phonogram, which is written character that represents speech sound. That’s one of Hangul’s merits, that Hangul can write down almost every sound, in very high accuracy. That must be why Cia-Cia tribe chose Hangul to convey sound of their own language.

It is well known that Hangul is very scientifically useful and efficient language. This is one step of Hangul to globalization. For many years, suggestion like introducing Hangul as means of writing  to peoples who do not have their own language but no written characters was raised. Now, it has been realized, and Hangul gained more fame and acknowledgement from world. There are more peoples on the earth who do not their own written characters, and scholars of linguistics of Korea are saying that they’ll put more effor to spread Hangul as useful written language.

  1. I’ve been surfing online more than 3 hours today, yet I never found any interesting article like yours. It’s pretty worth enough for me. Personally, if all site owners and bloggers made good content as you did, the internet will be a lot more useful than ever before.
