Seoul’s Incheon Airport Voted World’s Best
Seoul Incheon International Airport (ICN) has earned the title World’s Best Airport for 2009. In this year’s World Airport Awards, Incheon beat seven-time winner Hong Kong International Airport (HKG), into second place, while Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) was third.
Award organizers Skytrax said the winning margin among the top three airports was remarkably small considering the results were based on responses to 8.6 million questionnaires. At one stage a three-way tie appeared to be a possibility.
“We congratulate Incheon International Airport for achieving this title as World’s Best Airport for 2009,” said Skytrax CEO, Edward Plaisted. The global survey was conducted at 190 airports worldwide and evaluates traveller experiences across 39 different airport service and product factors — from check-in, arrivals and transfers through to departure at the gate.
“It is very clear from the 2009 survey results that Incheon International is setting the current global quality benchmark across these front-line airport service categories,” said Plaisted.
Asia-Pacific airports took seven of the top 10 positions in the World’s Best Airport Awards, with Osaka’s Kansai International Airport (KIX) at six, while Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) was seventh, Nagoya’s Centrair (NGO) was ninth and Auckland International Airport (AKL) was 10th.
Within China, Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK) was ranked first, followed by Shanghai’s Pudong International Airport (PVG) with Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN) third.
